AN ankle injury stands as the only impediment to Harriet Brown defending her Nutri-Grain ironwoman series title.

Brown notched the first race win of her career in Victoria last month but the victory came at a price, with the Northcliffe ironwoman tearing ankle ligaments after falling in a pothole running into the surf at Fairhaven Beach.

In the frigid conditions on Victoria’s Surf Coast, Brown did not at first notice the damage done to the joint and has battled to recover in time for Sunday’s penultimate round of the Nutri-Grain series.

The 27-year-old holds a commanding lead over Northcliffe clubmate Maddy Dunn in the overall standings and could even seal the title on Sunday if she finishes well ahead of her rivals.
