HARRIET Brown has had the remainder of her surf lifesaving season ripped from beneath her feet.
Having trained up to 16 times a week for the past two months in anticipation of the Queensland and Australian surf lifesaving titles, the former Nutri-Grain series champion arrived at swimming training on Friday, business as usual.
“That’s the first time we thought it might be a possibility,” Brown said.
Just hours later, both events were cancelled by their respective organising bodies amid COVID-19 fears as the surf lifesaving season came to an abrupt end.
“My sister had come up (from Victoria) for the weekend so I was out for dinner with her when we found out,” Brown said.
“We found out when surf lifesaving put the news up on Facebook.
“There was a bit of a discussion beforehand but once States were cancelled, we were basically waiting for them to make the call on Aussies.
“All of us Northcliffe girls are in a group message and we were all in absolute shock and couldn’t believe it came to an end so quickly.”
